Hair wings
A clump of hair tied on top as a wing, flaring as the thread tightens.
Cut a small clump, comb out the underfur and even the tips in a hair stacker. Measure, then hold it on top and make two loose turns before pulling tight: the hair flares as the thread bites.
Trim the butts at an angle (or square, for a caddis head) and bind them down.
Common mistakes
- Skipping the stacker, so the tips are ragged.
- Too much hair, which won't stay put.
