Feather wings
Whole feathers or quill slips tied on as wings.
For slips, cut matching sections from a left and a right quill so they curve the same way. Hold the pair on top of the hook, make a loose turn, and pull straight down so the fibres stack on top of each other.
Whole feathers are tied in by the stem; strip the fluff from the base first.
Common mistakes
- Slips that split apart: the loop wasn't pulled straight down.
- Mismatched slips that twist the fly.
