Dumbbell and bead-chain eyes
Eyes tied across the shank with figure-of-eight turns; heavy eyes turn the fly point-up.
Place the eyes across the shank about a third of the shank behind the eye. Bind them with figure-of-eight turns in both directions, then a few turns round the base to tighten everything. A drop of glue stops them twisting.
Common mistakes
- Eyes too close to the hook eye.
- Eyes that twist round the shank.
